Who is HPDE Magazine?

Todd Drury
Editor-in-Chief

Hi, and welcome to HPDE Magazine! I'm Todd Drury, and like a lot of you, I got hooked on track driving the first time I felt the car rotate just right through a corner. That was about 12 years ago, in a 1997 Porsche 911. With two young kids at home, track time was limited, but the passion never really faded.
A few years back, I picked up a 2017 Corvette Grand Sport. I didn’t buy it with the track in mind—but somehow, that’s exactly where we ended up. These days, Betsy (as the car’s known around here, thanks to her red, white, and blue livery) is a full-on track machine, complete with race buckets, harnesses, coilovers, and aero.
What really keeps me coming back, though, is the community. The people I’ve met at the track have become close friends, and the time I get to spend there has become something my whole family is a part of. My amazing wife plays a huge role in the magazine—she’s the driving force behind our sales and outreach, and none of this would be possible without her energy and support. My two sons are involved in the day-to-day as well—we even have a standing weekly meeting together, which has become a great way to connect over a shared passion.
HPDE Magazine came from the idea that this world—full of amazing tracks, trackside stories, and grassroots passion—deserved a place to be celebrated. I help shape the voice and direction of the magazine, and like any small team, I stay involved wherever I’m needed. Thanks for reading, and for being part of this community. We’re excited to see where the road takes us.

I proudly wear the title of “Track Widow,” a playful nod to life with my husband, who’s completely smitten with all things fast, loud, and full of horsepower. While he’s all about torque and track days, I’ve realized how to make the most of those weekends—turning them into mini getaways filled with hiking, biking, wine tasting, boutique shopping, and spa visits! Not so bad for a lonely widow!

My professional journey has taken me through the worlds of consumer goods, theme parks, the marine industry, and entrepreneurship with my own marketing firm. Today, I’m bringing that experience to HPDE Magazine, leading marketing and sales to help grow this incredible community. But above all, I’m a proud mom to two amazing boys who, like their dad, have a need for speed. It’s kind of cool that we’ve all found our place with HPDE Magazine – a true family affair! Whether I'm outdoors with our dog, Raya, cooking, biking or soaking up the sun at the beach, I’m always game for the next adventure—on or off the track!

Social Media
Just like my brother, Liam, I blame my dad for this obsession. Some would say it's odd how passionate my family is about all of this, but it has been ingrained in my brother and me since we were born. We had all the hot wheels, played all the need for speed video games and went to all the car shows! As we got older, car shopping (well window shopping) became more frequent. The first car I really remember was the BMW E46 M3. No other car spoke to me like that one did with its size, shape, character and presence on the road. Since then, many other cars have made it onto my bucket list of cars to own but that one will always have a special place in my heart. A lot of them are BMW’s because of that M3.
I love what we are doing with HPDE Magazine because it’s all about networking. However, finding that common ground has already been done for us if you’re reading this or subscribed. My role in the magazine is to manage our social media presence and interact with our readers through the respective platforms that we use. I hope to connect with you there!
Since I know you’re curious, I don’t have my M3 yet, but I am working on a solution for that!

Website/Design
My dad, Todd, introduced me to motorsports as early as I can remember. Like most of you, through either a friend or family member, I too have become a track addict.

For me, it really all began with my fascination of hyper cars, learning all of their stats, and repeating them to every living being I encountered. As I grew up, I'd learn to appreciate the less sought after and more affordable cars with the influence of media such as Initial D, Keiichi Tsuchiya's Best Motoring and Japanese Super GT.

My first love was a 1987 Toyota MR2. It was a 4A-GE model that I would later learn how to work on small fixes, like replacing headlights, repairing broken gauge clusters and changing my own oil. I unfortunately lost that car to a distracted driver only 6 months after ownership, leading to the purchase of a first generation Lexus IS300. This IS300 took me through 4 and a half years of autocross events, and really was what gave me the bug for track racing later on. As of now, I have a Subaru WRX (VB) that will hopefully see some more track days than my IS300 did.

My main role in the magazine is helping manage the complexities of our IT, website as well as making image media for the magazine's use. I can't wait to meet you all, or if I already know you, see you again at the next track event!
